Most importantly, our mission remains the same: To engage and educate our communities about the need for Greyhound adopters, to facilitate the rescue and adoption of retired racing Greyhounds and, as an extended pack across Central Virginia, enjoy these wonderful animals as pets in our homes.

Welcome to James River Greyhounds

Once Greyhounds finish their racing days, they're ready for a slower pace and a loving home.

James River Greyhounds, is a Richmond, Virginia based not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding responsible, caring homes for Greyhounds who no longer qualify at the racetracks. Since 1989 we have collectively adopted more than 500 Greyhounds (and counting!) throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Since we are a not-for-profit organization, our Adoption program depends on donations and volunteers to accomplish our many goals.
