Welcome to James River Greyhounds
When a greyhound's racing career has ended, they are looking for a loving forever home as a their next chapter begins as a family pet. These amazing, beautiful dogs are ready for a home life; much of their daily routine at the track translates well into life as a pet. They are eager to please, romp and of course lie down for a nap.
James River Greyhounds (formerly GPA Richmond) has been dedicated to finding responsible, caring homes for retired racing greyhounds since 1989. We have found forever homesd for more than 1750 greyhounds - and counting!
Our organization is run exclusively on donations and the efforts of dedicated volunteers to accomplish our mission of engaging and educating our communities about the need for greyhound adopters, to facilitate the adoption of retired racing greyhounds and, as an extended family, enjoy these wonderful animals as pets.
Consider yourself invited to our events such as our regular "meet-and-greets", where greyhounds and their adopters can come together to socialize and educate others on the joys of greyhound adoption. We also participate in seasonal events like Easter on Parade, the JRG/GLR Annual Fall Picnic, vending at Reach the Beach in Dewey Beach and Greyhounds in Gettysburg and several pop up events throughout the year.
